Intro to Marlborough, New Zealand

What's it like?

With the drowned valleys of the Marlborough Sounds, dramatic peaks of the Kaikoura ranges, New Zealand's largest wine making region, a year round sunny climate and a wealth of bird and sea life... Marlborough has a lot to be proud of.

Home to the Queen Charlotte Track this breathtaking region offers visitor and local alike an outdoor paradise. It is filled with native forests, trout-filled rivers, coastal tracks, sheltered bays for cruising and fishing, mountains and high backcountry - all easily accessible from its towns.

Whether you love wine or wildlife, sea-kayaking or cruising, native bush walks or formal garden rambles, under clear sunny skies Marlborough is a great place to unwind. In town and country there are galleries, museums, shopping, craft studios and food specialties to discover, with numerous tours taking in the best.

Things to do in Marlborough

With 67 kilometres of picturesque coastal forest, coves and inlets that make up the waterways of the Queen Charlotte and Kenepuru Sounds to be found along the Queen Charlotte Track, you can get a picture of what visitors can do to spend their time.

Also, with 65 wineries in the Marlborough region, it's easy to stumble upon a wine trail for one, two, a few or many wine tasting sessions (don't worry, many wineries have a cafe or restaurant on site if you need something strong and black to get you back on your feet).

Depending on the fishing ground, an average Marlborough brown trout can weigh from one to three kilograms. Fishing, hunting and wildlife sightseeing trips present more great reasons to enjoy the outdoors.
