Recumbent Bicycles

Recumbent bicycles are special type bicycles in which the rider is seated as in a chair. The back of the rider is supported and the rider's legs are extended forward to pedals. They give a very relaxed riding position with no weight on the wrists. They also provide a natural view. Recumbent bicycles are more comfortable to operate than normal bicycles and are great for touring and day rides.

Recumbent bicycle designs date back to the middle of the 19th century. But they became popular only recently. Depending on the length, there are three types of recumbent bicycles - long wheel base (LWB), short wheel base (SWB), and compact long wheel base (CLWB). Most of them are powered by pedaling with legs. But some types are hand powered.

Recumbent bicycles are more expensive than other bicycles, but the costs are coming down all the time as the market expands.

Recumbent bicycles are mainly used for exercise. As they provide different benefits for men and women, most physicians and personal trainers recommend them for people of all fitness levels. They offer you a few cardio exercises that put no force on your knees and other joints. Since their seats are much larger than other exercise bicycles, they are perfect for people who are overweight. Athletes choose these bicycles as a challenge. Recumbent bicycles are easy to use even for people with back and knee problems.

Compared with traditional upright bicycles, recumbent bicycles have several advantages. Their steering and handlebars are placed above the seat at shoulder level or below the seat. As the rider's body is comfortably maintained in a sitting position, there will not be any stress mounting on the hands. Their aerodynamic designs make long distance ridings free from saddle sores, neck strains, and wrist pain.

Holidays in New Zealand South Island and North Island

New Zealand didn't get the title 'Adventure Capital of the World' from promoting sock darning classes -- No Sir-eee, this title comes from the layout of high mountains off which glaciers roll, vast craggy gorges and lakes, and wide open space that make the whole country seem like a giant's Adventure Playground. And extreme sports peeps can't help but heed the call and want to spend their holidays in New Zealand and particularly South Island.

Bungee jumping, in its modern form, was invented in New Zealand, so it's the perfect introduction to all holidays in New Zealand. So was black water rafting, but this playground is also known for extreme staples: jet boating, white water rafting, heli bungy, tandem parapenting, tandem skydiving, heliskiing, snowkiting, snowboarding, sand yachting, zorbing, sphere-ing, rock climbing and abseiling, canyoning, and more gentle pastimes, kayaking, cycling or mountain biking and trekking: all worth considering when planning holidays in New Zealand.

This South Island extreme adventure itinerary is an extremely scenic model to base your own extreme holidays in New Zealand around.

Day 1: Wellington -- Nelson Many holidays in New Zealand start in Wellington, North Island, and from there head out across the Cook Strait, passing between the Marlborough Sounds to Nelson -- maybe doing a spot of fishing, or kayaking or wreck diving on your way.

Day 2 & 3: Abel Tasman National Park An unmissable part of any holidays in New Zealand, days in the Able Tasman National Park are for kayaking and walking in an extremely beautiful setting.

Day 4 - 6: Via the blowholes at Punakaiki to the Franz Joseph Glacier On the way past Punakiki to Franz Josef stop off at the Pancake Rocks, eroded rock formations that facilitate some very impressive ocean v. blowhole action, and not something most holidays in New Zealand factor time for, then spend a couple of days around the glacier cross county quad biking, ice climbing or rafting - or even heli-rafting - on the river. The face of the Franz Joseph glacier is constantly changing, it's one of the world's only advancing glaciers -- it can move up to 70cms a day - and the walk up to its icefields and icefells is though temperate rainforest, rising almost 2500m in under 12 kms. If the half day glacial hike up it, over its ice fields on the way, sounds a little too easy for your extreme holidays in New Zealand, opt for the heli-hiking option -- you do the work on the way up and then get lifted down over some spectacular scenes -- bound to be a highlight for holidays in New Zealand.

Day 7: Lake Wanaka In winter Lake Wanaka is the ultimate wintersports holidays in New Zealand destination, come on down skiers! cross country and otherwise, snowboarders! for the snow park and ice climbers. In summer it's time for fishing, swimming, boating and of course jet boating holidays in New Zealand.

Day 8 - 10: Queenstown and Milford Sound Queenstown has more than once been referred to as 'the Adventure Capital of the Adventure Capital'. This town has the original commercial bungee jump, as well as one of the highest - if that's not high enough go skydiving! Or try something new on your holidays in New Zealand and get catapulted about on the Shotover Canyon Swing - it's like a huge fairground ride - go high-wire-bungee-ing, try canyoning, or heli-mountain biking. There are a lot of sports that New Zealanders like to add the word 'heli' to the front of. In winter there's extreme wintersports to keep you entertained in Queenstown as well. Milford Sound is close by if you prefer extreme watersports.

Day 11: Lake Tekapo, Lake Pukaki and Mount Cook Climbing Mt. Cook or heli-climbing her is one of the highlights of spending your holidays in New Zealand -- either way this snowy peak is a spectacular view -- but for an even more extreme view skydive over her.

Day 12: Christchurch Surf, do the rapids at Rangitata Gorge, or recover.

Arcade Golf Games

Arcade games are quite popular, including sports games like rugby, basketball, golf, etc. Such games focus more towards faster game plays and high scores, adding to their competitive nature.

Arcade golf games make a great sales tool for trade show contests, parties, corporate events and even putting practice. They even boast of realistic sounds and running commentary. They come fully equipped with a golf course graphic screen, PVC golf balls and tethered balls, electronic mat, a putting hole, putting green mat, tee, electronic module and flag. All you will have to do is get the clubs.

The Golden Tee is one such golf arcade game phenomenon. It has rivaled the pool table and the dartboard as a popular bar game. Since it is a coin-operated game, the money it makes goes to the distributor. The trajectory of the ball, usage of the backspin and controls to increase your shot accuracy can all be found in such golf arcade games. Some enthusiasts, who can afford to, also buy and keep such games at home. If they are married, then all they need is an extremely supportive and understanding spouse! The electronic golf arcade games need batteries to run, though they are not included in the package itself. You can buy them online or otherwise. These games have options for single or multi-player tournaments. Some have ticket dispensers, coin mechanisms or a free play mode. They also have built-in wheels, which makes them easily portable. The PGA Tour Golf 2006 Challenge Home Edition is an awesome design which even allows you to tee off during your choice of dawn, dusk or midday, with effects like fog and rain which actually affect the game. Everything is incredibly detailed, from the waterfalls and trees to the dimples on the ball. You can even make the golfer look like you or your best friend!

Such versions of these arcade games give you an experience of unparalleled reality and remarkable play at that.

Exploring the Tropical Rainforests of Australia

It's getting harder and harder to find land left that's not been touched by man, it's unfortunate but this is the direction our world is headed, and these lands will never be the same after being altered. Australia's Tropical North Queensland region is still one of the place that has this natural beauty still to be seen. There is much historical importance to this area also and many schools of higher education use the area for their school to teach and learn as much as possible.

The rainforests of this region have been placed on the World Heritage list as being a natural, living museum, so to speak. A place where you can come and explore the natural beauty, wonder, and amazement of watching creatures thriving in the natural habitat, the Australian rainforests are considered the oldest naturally preserved rainforests potentially dating back one hundred thirty five million years.

The rainforests have been left as natural wilderness but to help keep the human impact light boardwalks and other types of walkways were constructed. This small human touch has been very helpful to keep everything as natural as possible in the rainforests.

There are brochures for the rainforests if someone wants to wander this habitat on their own time, and guided tours for those who want some guidance. If you wish to stay close by there are quite a number of accommodations to make your stay comfortable during your tour of this unusual natural area. And most of these places to stay will offer some type of guided tour either day or night so their guests can see this incredible place and learn more about all of it. The tours encompass all of the uniqueness of the rainforests, from the white beaches to beautiful creeks to tumbling waterfalls.

The Tropical North Queensland region has something no other area in the world offers so among the tourist destinations to choose from it draws a lot of tourists. It offers an untouched natural habitat unlike anything else people can see anywhere else.

Sarasota Florida Hotels

It is not without any reason that Sarasota along with its islands is known as the gem of the Gulf coast of Florida. The beautiful beaches and the mangrove lined waterways make this place one of the most exquisite holiday destinations. Whether it is a canoe ride through the clear waters, shopping in the numerous malls or feasting on exquisite and scrumptious delicacies, Sarasota sounds like a perfect place for all this and more.

Like all other holiday destinations in Florida, even Sarasota offers a variety of options for accommodations for families, couples, and people on business trips and lonely explorers. So if you are considering Sarasota for that long planned for romantic getaway or the holiday with your family that never materialized, then you will not be disappointed.

Resorts and vacation homes will fit your need for privacy perfectly. While resorts will make your stay more comfortable with luxuries such as club facilities and room service, a vacation home on rent is the best idea if you wish to be left undisturbed alone or with your loved one.

A number of people feel obliged to stay at home and take care of their pets while the rest of the world is vacationing but, if your destination is Sarasota then you will no longer have to make the impossible choice between a few days of fun and your most beloved pet. A number of hotels in Sarasota offer your pets a grand accommodation, allowing them to get away and relax at the same time as you do!

Like most holiday destinations and tourist getaways, even Sarasota hotels offer online reservations. Some of the websites also let you take a virtual tour of the room that you have reserved for yourself. A cautious choice of hotels is all that you need to get set for the ultimate vacation experience.

Discount Florida Hotels

If you are on a limited budget tour to Florida and do not want to settle for a sleazy motel which rents room at dirt cheap rates but is situated at a downtown part of the city, then discount hotels are your next best option.

With the option of discount hotels you can get rooms for as low as $50 per night even on a twin sharing basis. Some of the high end hotels situated in the posh areas of the city also offer huge discounts. If you are lucky enough then some of the discounts can even go up to as much as 70% of the regular rates. However, these discount offers are at their best during the off seasons, when there are not that many tourists in the cities.

Your web browsing ability can help you find a decent deal which includes all the facilities provided by a five star hotel for as low as $75 a night. This may include a luxurious room, a swimming pool, complimentary meals and the facility to use the gymnasium.

While making these deals online one needs to be extremely cautious as a number of websites often display fraudulent information. They display photographs which are supposedly of the hotels at which you are making reservations but upon arrival, the actual hotel bears little resemblance to the one in the photographs.

It is a good idea to go through unbiased reviews posted by former customers before you make any reservations, otherwise you might discover that your vacation turns out to be quite disastrous. You might find that the room service is extremely slow, or your room might not even have the most basic facility of a shower. The food could be bad and there might be a number of other hidden expenses that surprise you only later in the bill.

So, for an experience which will leave you with fond memories, be sure to make your hotel reservations with extreme caution.

New Zealand Travel - See the South Island in 15 Days

Most people start their South Island holiday In Christchurch. I'd like to suggest an alternative. How about flying into Wellington. That may sound crazy, but it allows you to catch the Interislander ferry across to Picton, which is a great way to start your holiday. As you approach Picton you travel through the Marlborough Sounds, and you will get a much better look at them from the ferry than you would by road. You then collect your hire car from Picton and commence your journey at the top of the South Island, which means you won't need to backtrack over the same ground.

My suggestion for a 15 day trip is:

Day 1 fly to Wellington. Stay in the city or the Oriental Bay area so that you have a short trip to the ferry the next morning.

2. Wellington to Picton on a morning ferry (about 4 hours). Then collect your hire car at Picton and drive to Kaikoura (about 2 hours). You travel along the coast for most of the journey. The Kaikoura Range comes down to the sea and depending on the time of year there may be plenty of snow still.

3. Go whale watching in the morning in Kaikoura before the winds start, then drive to Hanmer Springs (about 2 hours). Visit the thermal pools in Hanmer. A lovely clean, alpine resort.

4. Hanmer to Christchurch (about 2 hours)

5. Christchurch

6. Drive from Christchurch to Lake Tekapo (about 3 hours) and stay the night (try for a lake view room. The scenery is amazing).

7. Drive from Tekapo to Queenstown (3.5 hours). Spend four nights in Queenstown. There is plenty to do and see, and four days is my recommended minimum time here. Try and book a lake view room if you can.

8 to 10 Stay in Queenstown. This will give you a chance to relax for a few days, although you should plan a bus trip to Milford Sound on one of these days (and a bungy if you are game). The trip to Milford Sound is a big day, but at least someone else is doing the driving. A trip on the old steamship TSS Earnslaw is also recommended as is a trip up to Bob's Peak on the gondola.

11. Drive from Queenstown to Wanaka. Make sure you travel over the Crown Range rather than through Cromwell, as it's shorter and has better scenery (about 1 hour). About 20 kilometres before Wanaka stop of at the old Cardrona Hotel for morning tea or lunch. Stay the night in Wanaka. The scenery is similar to Queenstown, but the town is less hurried. A beautiful spot on the shores of Lake Wanaka. Visit Puzzling World while in Wanaka.

12. Drive from Wanaka to Franz Josef Glacier (about 4 hours). Spectacular scenery past endless lakes and then to the West Coast which is wild and rugged. Better to stay at Franz Josef rather than Fox Glacier as FJ has more variety in accommodation and places to eat. And you can see the glacier from the centre of the village. New Zealand weather can change quickly, but if the weather and funds allow, take a helicopter flight on to the glacier. Unbelievable!

13. Drive from Franz Josef to Punakaiki to visit Pancake Rocks and the blowhole. Not much else there other than a small village, but there is a motel called the Rocks Resort which is beachfront. We have stayed there a few times. The rooms look over the ocean and the restaurant has floor to ceiling windows so you can watch the sun setting over the ocean. Beautiful.

14. Drive from Punakaiki to Greymouth (about 30 minutes). Drop your car off then catch the Tranz Alpine train to Christchurch. Along with Milford Sound, this is one of the "must do" things in NZ. The train takes about 4 hours to go from Greymouth on the West Coast to Christchurch on the East Coast, and travels through the alps. Have your camera ready, sit back and enjoy a wine, and watch the world go by. A taste of New Zealand rail travel is a wonderful way to finish your holiday.

15. Fly home.

This itinerary doesn't take you to Dunedin. My personal opinion is that Dunedin is a bit over-rated, and that there are better things to see in your limited time on the South Island.

Hope this gives you plenty to think of. Enjoy planning your New Zealand travel.

P.S. 1. Don't forget your New Zealand travel insurance.

P.S. 2 When making your New Zealand hotel reservations, always try and book somewhere close to amenities, and if possible, with a view.

Exciting Team Building Activities in Washington DC

Washington, D.C. is a veritable paradise for corporate team building activities. With so many things to do and exciting sites to see, there are endless possibilities for creative team solutions. Knowledgeable companies realize that a great site and an out-of-the-ordinary activity, build the groundwork for an attention-grabbing program that will keep employees receptive and develop team skills. All of this heads towards the ultimate goal of raising employee productivity.

Of all the programs possible in Washington, one fun team building program that puts the pedal to the metal is a Washington DC Limousine Treasure Hunt. A hunt can be customized to any part of the metro-area where team members would like to "tour" - and by tour I mean a hunt can be customized to "find" local highlights. One limo hunt idea may be to have hunters begin by a ride through Capitol Hill, one of the oldest residential communities in the city, and home to the country's seat of government. Pair this with a drive through Washington's scenic, historic, and incredible views, and this is definitely going to be one exciting ride.

For teams that would rather walk, there's a unique hunt called the Amazing Adventure that is the perfect vehicle for exploring quaint commercial areas in Georgetown or Alexandria. In this treasure hunt, the team's mission is to discover the rarest of beasts, one that has never been captured or photographed before. Think of the creature as a modern-day Big Foot, or maybe it's a unicorn... its up to your team to find out!

Does an activity aimed at transforming the world sound appealing to you? Then try Chocolate Therapy. This activity is a multilayered challenge, one that your employees are sure to enjoy when in Washington. This activity takes place in a private room of a hotel or restaurant. Maybe the Capital Grill on Pennsylvania Avenue, in the heart of Washington? Or the Willard room in the fabulous historic Willard Hotel.

For companies wanting to achieve their goals through team building activities, it's all about getting results - a stronger team and better team process. For the provider, it's all about making corporate team building programs interesting and effective. The more unique the activities are, the more they're liked by the participants, and the more effective they are in helping teams foster that culture of communication, cooperation, and trust. Getting results doesn't have to be somber and boring. After each fun team building activity, a good team building company will offer the option to lead participants through a debriefing session that analyzes their team process for each activity and reinforces the lessons learned. Amidst all the laughter and newfound camaraderie, these are improved skills that will make a company more productive. What better place to rise to the team building challenge than Washington, DC.

Planning a New Zealand Wine Vacation - Tour Lesser Known Wineries

In recent years New Zealand has become a popular destination for the world's wine buffs. The major wine regions of Marlborough and Hawke's Bay, and the neighboring areas of Wairarapa and Wellington, enjoy thousands of visitors every year.

But with stunning wineries stretching from the northernmost tip to the bottom of the South Island, why not explore them? Tourists will enjoy some amazing wine experiences if they dare to venture off the beaten track.

New Zealand may be a relatively new wine destination, but its most popular ports can tend to get crowded. It may seem appealing to visit New Zealand's largest wineries, but you may think twice when you're bumping elbows with other tasters at the bar. Contrast this with the serenity and personalized service of smaller vineyards, and you may be tempted to try the path less traveled.

If you're looking for this kind of relaxed wine vacation, there are a few New Zealand regions you may like to consider.

Northland is often overlooked by wine tourists. It's the smallest of New Zealand's wine regions, and its location on the northernmost tip of the North Island is a little out of the way. But it's worth the effort to visit this picturesque region.

Croatian immigrants planted New Zealand's first grape vines in Northland in 1819, but this region's wine industry all but died out until recently. Thanks to current interest in New Zealand's wines, the area has enjoyed a resurgence.

The beautiful coastal districts of Kaitaia, Bay of Islands, and Whagarei make up the Northland wine region. It enjoys New Zealand's warmest weather which makes it the perfect place to grow cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and chardonnay grapes, and to attract sun loving travelers.

A journey on the Northland Food and Wine Trail is the perfect way for gastronomes to experience all this region has to offer. The 74 food and wine experiences on the trail are all clearly signposted to help travelers find their way. Many stops like Ake Ake Winery, Omata Estate, and Cottle Hill Winery combine excellent wine and fine food for a truly indulgent experience.

For the ultimate foodie's delight, consider visiting Northland in September. Every year wineries and restaurant join together for The Northland Lunch, an annual degustation meal featuring amazing dishes created with fresh local produce and matched with the perfect Northland wines.

Central Otago is one of New Zealand's fastest growing wine regions, but few international tourists ever make it far enough south to see it. It's a shame, because this beautiful mountainous area is paradise for wine lovers.

Central Otago is famous for elegant pinot noirs, but it's also worth sampling the chardonnays, sauvignon blancs, rieslings, pinot grigios, and gewürztraminers. You'll find wonderful examples of these varieties at Felton Road Wines, Peregrine Wines, and Two Paddocks, the winery owned by movie star Sam Neill.

Central Otago is conveniently located near New Zealand's adventure capital, Queenstown. Bungy jumping, skydiving, kayaking, and hang-gliding are huge industries here, and the perfect way to get the adrenalin pumping. Wine tasting in the nearby Gibbston Valley is the ideal complement to these heart-racing activities. Or venture further away from the city to explore vineyards at Wanaka, Alexandra, and the Cromwell Basin.

Central Otago's food and wine is celebrated with an annual festival in February. Enjoy award-winning wines and tasty treats while soaking up the sounds of local jazz bands. The beautiful surroundings of the Queenstown Gardens make this festival a must see for locals and tourists alike.

New Zealand's wine industry is thriving, from the north to the south. So don't just focus on the big names in New Zealand's heart. There are unexpected joys to experience by wine tourists that dare to be different.

Cruise Ships-Are You Living On a Cruise Ship Part Time?

There has been a lot of buzz lately about living on a Cruise Ship full time as an alternative to living in a retirement home.

However, it does not seem very exciting after about 6 months or so.

Ships, even Cruise Ships, are noisy for at least 2 reasons:

1. Engine Noise.

No matter how new the ship, no matter what new turbine engines the ship may have, the 24 hour engine noise may get to people.

2. Parties, bars and restaurants.

There is always a kind of party atmosphere on a Cruise Ship, people eat and drink too much, nobody tells them when to go to bed, they don't have to get up the next morning, so, parties make noise.

It gets boring staring at the ocean 2 out of 3 days.

Although ship's activities are very many these days, after a while you'll get bored with them.
Cabins in general are very small, so after a while you're going to miss your large living room on the mainland with its 75" TV.

However, if 6 months are too long, there are other alternatives; Cruise maybe a couple of months a year.

If you follow that action things become interesting.

Here are some options:

The Monthly $18,000 route:

Residensea, the world's only floating Condo, a 47,000 ton cruise ship which sails the oceans,
reportedly offers staterooms for rent for as low as $18,000 per month.

This Cruise Ship has designer apartments with original art.

I mean, this is luxury personified.

Great if you can get it.

Around the world in 102 Days.

By small Luxury Cruise Ship

In 2005 a trip around the world lasting 110 days could be had for as low as $15,600 per person.
That is $150 per person per day including food and all facilities. That is $9000 per couple per month.

This same couple would spend a minimum of $4000 a month in an old folks home.

So going on this 3 1/2 month World Cruise would cost them $9000 - $4000 = $5000 per month.

Now let me tell you what this $5000 for 2 people gets them:

The Itinerary:

Southampton ,Tenerife - Canary Islands St Vincent - Cape Verde Islands Fortaleza - Brazil Rio de Janeiro - Brazil Montevideo - Uruguay Buenos Aires - Argentina Puerto Madryn - Argentina Port Stanley - Falkland Islands Cruise around Cape Horn Ushuaia - Argentina Transit Beagle Channel Punta Arenas - Chile Chacabuco - Chile Puerto Montt - Chile Santiago - Chile Cruise by Easter Island Cruise by Pitcairn Island Papeete - Tahiti Bora Bora - Society Islands Pago Pago - American Samoa Lautoka - Fiji Islands Noumea - New Caledonia Brisbane - Australia Sydney - Australia Eden - Australia Philip Island - Australia Melbourne - Australia Hobart -Australia Transit Milford Sound Dunedin - New Zealand Christchurch - New Zealand Transit Marlborough Sound Wellington - New Zealand Auckland - New Zealand Nuku 'Alofa - Tonga Apia - Western Samoa Christmas Island Honolulu - Oahu, Hawaii Kahalui - Maui, Hawaii Los Angeles - USA Acapulco - Mexico Huatulco - Mexico Transit Panama Canal Curacao - Dutch Antilles Margherita Island - Venezuela Barbados Ponta Delgada

The Luxury:

This is on a very luxurious Cruise Ship that has only outside or balcony cabins.

By Freighter

In 2005 a trip around the world lasting 102 days by various freighting companies could be had for $11,750 per person.
That is $117 per person per day including food and all facilities. That is $7000 per couple per month.

This same couple would spend a minimum of $4000 a month in an old folks home.

So going on this 3 1/2 month World Cruise would cost them $7000 - $4000 = $3000 per month.

For this you get a double suite with double occupancy.
Port Times range from 1 to 2 days.
The advantage seems to be that there is lots of space in four double suites.

The double suites all consist of two rooms, a bedroom with twin beds and a living room.

The cabins have showers.

Each cabin also has its own VCR and TV monitor and refrigerator.

On board facilities are a private passenger lounge and the sharing of the officers' table

There is also an indoor swimming pool.

Cruise Hopping

This is cheaper yet.
There are lots of 7 day cruises for about $100 per day per passenger.
So you could conceivably take 7 day cruises continuously in the same area, say, the Caribbean, on the same ship, or on different ships until you get sick and tired of the area.

You can then do the same thing from the West Coast.

Logistics would be more difficult because you may need a place to stay every 7th night.

Discount Cruising

Effective in 2005 there is now a discount European Cruise Line operating in the Caribbean that charges $46 per person per night but you have to get your own food.

Maximum time they allow you to cruise is 2 weeks.

Still, can't get any cheaper than this.

So, if you want to live on a Cruise Ship, it can be done in a variety of different ways.

New Zealand's Best Wine Regions

Embarking on a winery tour through New Zealand is a great feat to accomplish. Popular with couples, this sort of holiday usually only comes along once in a lifetime, so it makes sense to make the most of it. Some of New Zealand's must-visit winery regions include:

The Marlborough Region

Positioned at the top of the South Island, Marlborough is New Zealand's largest growing wine region and is a must-visit for any lover of wine in New Zealand. Most famous for its fabulous Sauvignon Blanc, which is among the best in the world, this region is home to well over 60 wineries, with one seemingly around every corner.

The Nelson Region

Although often overshadowed by the Marlborough region (both in popularity and proximity), the Nelson region boasts some of the best wines in the country. Although this is one of the smaller wine regions, it still boasts an impressive 17 wineries, including Anchorage Wines, Five Oaks and Blackenbrook Vineyard.

The Canterbury Region

Since 1840 the Canterbury and Christchurch regions have been growing and producing world class wines, including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. Popular wineries include Opihi Vineyard and Pegasus Bay Winery, which both offer an incredible food and wine experience, sure to impress.

The Central Otago Region

While Central Otago's wine region is small, it definitely is thriving. Boasting a whopping 178 wineries, this region has a high world-wide reputation for Pinot Noir, while also experiencing some success with sparkling wines.

The Wairarapa Region

If you are holidaying in Wellington and seeking a weekend escape among some lovely wineries, the Wairarapa region would have to be your best bet. Rolling hills and a panoramic mountain background make this a region both beautiful and thriving. Perfect for a couple's getaway, this area is sure not to disappoint.

The Hawke's Bay Region

Producing wines with an extremely unique quality, the Hawke's Bay Region truly is among New Zealand's best wine regions. In fact, second to the Marlborough region, it is the largest. Home to some of the country's oldest wine making establishments, this is the region to visit for those keen to learn the fascinating history and heritage of wine making.

The Gisborne Region

Specialising in Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Merlot, Muller Thurgau, Muscat, Pinot Noir, Semillon and Viognier, this region is guaranteed to impress.

Not only are the wineries superb, but their setting is also among the spectacular. Enjoy awe-inspiring settings as you sample some of the nations finest and remember exactly why it is that you enjoy this pastime so much

How to Choose a Good New Zealand Car Rental

New Zealand's diverse landscape is best travelled by car. There are many local New Zealand car rental companies you need to choose from. Here is a short list of important factors you should consider while making your decision.

1. Find a car that meets your needs. The New Zealand car hire market offers a wide range of vehicles for hire. These start from small vehicles suitable for 2 people travelling light and end at large minibuses for groups. The names of vehicle categories vary from one company to the other. When browsing a website, look for the vehicle specs pages. This will help you compare apples with apples. The vehicle specs found on most New Zealand car rental websites, will give you an idea on how many people can drive in comfort in the vehicle and also how much luggage you can fit in. If you carry a lot of luggage it is advisable to take a bigger size car. Don't put your hopes on getting an upgrade. As many vehicles in the car rental industry in New Zealand are imported from Japan, you might not be familiar with the car model. Try searching the term in places such as Wikipedia to find the name of similar models you might have in your own country.

2. What's included in daily rate. To simplify the comparison of apples with apples, you need to check what each company is including in its daily rate. Usually this will be stated at the home page, but you can also look for a Frequently Asked Questions page or a Terms & Conditions page. Make sure the daily rate includes a 24 hour AA roadside assistance, for your peace of mind while travelling.

3. What's not included in the daily rate. Look for the small print. You can find what is not included in the daily rate on the online booking search result page. Look for airport fees, after hour service fees etc. You will probably find details of additional items you can hire.

4. Insurance. Included in the daily rate is usually a comprehensive third party insurance. Make sure you understand the terminology and that you understand what you are liable for in case an unfortunate accident.

5. Collision Damage Waiver options. In the unfortunate event of accident you will have to pay the excess you are liable for regardless of who is at fault. As property damage insurance is not compulsory in New Zealand, it can take a long time until a claim is resolved. This is why many rental car companies are offering their clients to purchase additional collision damage waiver, or CDW. Read the options carefully as these may vary from one company to the other.

6. Under 21 years of age? Most car rental companies in New Zealand prescribe 21 years as the minimum age to hire a car. So if you are under 21 years of age, it is important you ensure the car rental company you are hiring from will allow you to drive the car. you should also confirm if there are any surcharges associated.

7. Travelling with children. If you travel with children under the age of 7 years, they need to be seated with the proper child restraint, according to NZ Transport Agency. Take note the baby or child seat is considered an additional item and therefore one might not be available for you. You should check with your rental car company a child seat has been allocated for you before your arrival.

8. Travelling between islands. Being an island nation, ferries are an important mode of transportation for connecting the North and South Islands. The divide between New Zealand's North and South islands is one of the most beautiful parts of NZ - the Cook Strait and the Marlborough Sounds. Travelling between the islands is easy. All you need is to board the inter-island ferry, enjoy the beautiful scenery from one of the decks and after 3 hours drive off at the other side. Some rental companies have depots at both ends of the ferry crossing (Wellington on the North Island and Picton on the South Island), which means you leave the car at the depot, take your luggage with you on the ferry and receive a different vehicle on the other side. From our experience,it is more convenient to take your car rental on the ferry to the other island than having to unpack your car on one side and then pack your new car and draw up a new contract. There are two companies offering ferry crossing services - Interislander and Bluebridge. It is advisable to book the crossing in advance, and it can also save you money. You can make the booking online yourself, or at any of the authorised agents. Ask the team at the rental company for assistance.

9. Cancellation policy. If you are the kind of person who likes to have things organised way in advance, you need to know what are the rental car company cancellation policies. When booking online some companies will charge a deposit and some will not. In both cases you need to know what will happen if you cancel your reservation prior arrival time, and it is also advisable to know what you will be charged in case of a no-show or in case of change of pick-up time.

10. Additional items for hire. This may not be a highly important factor in making your decision, it is good to know what is the added value a New Zealand car rental company is offering you. These items can add further flexibility and comfort while on the road.

Hulda Forest and Herzl House

On Israel's 50th birthday her people received an extraordinarily precious gift. That year the Jewish National Fund, the Society for the Preservation of Historic Sites in Israel and the Israel Nature and Parks Authority began the painstaking restoration of 50 outstanding historic sites.

Foremost among them was Herzl House, an early 20th-century villa oddly located in the middle of the JNF's very first forest. The forest dates back to 1905, when a company called Geula, or "Redemption," purchased 500 acres of land from the Arabs of Hulda village. The company intended to divide its purchase into sections and sell them to Jewish newcomers. Unfortunately for Geula, massive grazing had depleted the earth of its minerals and the soil at Hulda was completely barren - not a tree, bush or flower broke the dreary landscape. And it took hours to get to the nearest town.

Years went by, and no one wanted the desolate plots. Geula officials, who had borrowed from the bank to acquire the land, began to seriously wonder how they would recover their losses.

Salvation arrived in 1908, when the newly established JNF decided to plant a forest at Hulda in honor of Herzl. The great visionary had passed away just a few years earlier, and when told the money was for an olive-tree forest in his memory, donors generously opened their purses. Sadly, however, although commonly identified with the Holy Land, olive trees were wholly unsuited to the soil at Hulda.

That wasn't the only problem. Accomplished German agronomist Louis Barish agreed to take on the Hulda project in 1909. However, the knowledge that had served him well in Europe was all wrong for the Middle East. Planting season in Israel differed from that of Europe - but he insisted on sticking to what he knew best.

Most of Barish's laborers came from Eastern Europe. Idealistic Zionists, they objected to his employment of additional Arab labor, couldn't understand German, and greatly resented Barish's highfalutin' attitude. And no wonder: Barish lavished his resources on construction of a grand residence in honor of Herzl, appropriated all four large rooms on the top story for himself, and crowded the workers into the damp and stuffy basement together with snakes, scorpions and other creepy-crawly creatures.

Barish was sent packing barely a year after he arrived, and the vast majority of olive-tree saplings sown at Hulda soon perished. Eventually the JNF completely revised its thinking, and in 1912 planted its very first pine forest at Hulda.

Herzl Forest today is encompassed within a much larger Hulda Forest filled with an unusually wide variety of trees. It features South American pepper, eucalyptus, Australian casuarinas (so named because the twigs resemble the feathers of the cassowary bird), cypress, all kinds of pine, sycamore, chinaberry, acacia and Washingtonian trees. There are plenty of fruit trees as well: carob, date, olive and pistachio and, in late winter, flowering almond.

With Barish gone and the forests replanted, Hulda was turned into a training farm for pioneers. Jews in the Diaspora rarely knew anything about agriculture, and enthusiastic young people arrived singly and in organized groups to study farming and afforestation techniques that they would be able to apply to settlements all over the country.

A large sign marks the Tel Hai Grove, planted in 1920 after a famous battle. Among the fallen at Tel Hai was Benjamin Munter, who had studied farming at Hulda as a new immigrant before heading north to help settle the Galilee. After the battle his bullet-ridden body was found sheltering a second pioneer, Sara Chisik. As a result, although she too lay dead, her body was less ravaged than his by the hand grenade that killed them both. A grove was planted in his memory: look for the sign.

The natural green foliage on the trail stands in the path of the Shaham River, which overflowed frequently until pipes began redirecting the water a few decades ago. Mosquitoes from this swamp made life miserable for the Hulda farmers.

Along the trail are tall, elegant spruce trees, whose rocket-shaped peaks stretch towards the sky. Known as Lovers' Lane for nearly a century, this part of the woods is still a romantic setting.

As the years went by children were born, often to couples who met at the farm. A courtyard was constructed to hold the stables, chicken coops and cowshed; storerooms, a laundry, a guardhouse, a workers' residence and a water reservoir were built into its walls.

Rachel's Grove was planted in 1931 in memory of the famous young poet who died at an early age. Nearby, there is a beautiful avenue of magnificent Washingtonian palms, with tall, straight trunks and a fanlike crest.

The most arresting feature in the forest is a monument called "Labor and Defense" in memory of fallen pioneers. It stands over the grave of Ephraim Chisik. Chisik, whose sister was killed at Tel Hai, left the Galilee to help defend Hulda in 1929.

That year, following a campaign of wild incitement and using a dispute over the Western Wall as an excuse, bloody riots broke out in and near Jerusalem. In the massacres that followed, Arabs murdered Jews at Motza and over 60 men, women and children in Hebron.

Thousands of victory-drunk Arabs then attacked Hulda, which sat isolated in the forest with only a few dozen armed settlers. When the rioters set the farm's threshing floor on fire, the flames moved into the courtyard.

Chisik and his reinforcements, in the woods, were forced to reposition in the yard. When their situation became untenable he commanded them to take shelter in the big house, covering them as they crawled forward. The last one to go, Chisik was hit with a fatal bullet as he ran towards shelter.

Although the young farmers managed to hold off the enemy, the British who eventually arrived forced them to evacuate Herzl House - and refused them permission to take Chisik's body along. He was buried some days later, at this site.

Built out of a mammoth block of hard Jerusalem limestone that was cut into two parts, the memorial was unveiled in 1937 after seven years of labor. Young sculptor Batya Lichansky lived in a tent adjacent to the site and traveling to Jerusalem once a week to sharpen her tools.

Although she didn't specify who all the figures were meant to be, most people think that the imposing figure at the top is Ephraim Chisik, one arm spread out like a wing while the other grasps a grenade behind his back. The image below is thought to be Benjamin Munter, sheltering Ephraim's sister Sara. Carved into the monument are tools, a wagon wheel and sheaves of wheat - symbolizing conquest of the land by the plow.

Herzl House, the yard and the forest were completely devastated by the Arabs in 1929, and the land remained empty for the next two years. But in 1931 the World Zionist Congress decided to encourage permanent settlement at Hulda. The group that came, young people from Poland, partly restored the house, rebuilt the courtyard and planted new trees. Six years later they decided to move to a more defensible site nearby, today's Kibbutz Hulda.

One side of Herzl House boasts an enormous portrait of the great Zionist. After Hulda kibbutzniks left the forest, and until the recent $2 million renovation, it stood alone and neglected.

Inside stands Barish's desk, and behind it a fascinating display showing how potential donors were persuaded to contribute to the JNF. Dozens of postcards, sent all over the Diaspora, depict joyful pioneers planting trees amidst lush, green woods.

A final feature at this site is Exhibit Avenue, a paved path lined on both sides with Washingtonians that offers a charmingly innovative display of Hulda's history.

New Year's in NYC - A Euphoric Experience

This past New Year's 2009 was absolutely great for me because I was in Times Square in New York City. If you ever have the chance to go there you should definitely do it because it's an experience like none other. Before I went for New Years this past year I had been to NYC before and I absolutely loved it. This is why I want to provide you with some great spots to check out for New Year's in New York.

First off when you get to Times Square on New Year's Eve I suggest if you want to have a spot anywhere close to the front, you ought to arrive no later than 8am New Year's Eve and be prepared to be in that same spot until after the ball drops at midnight. You ask why do I need to be there so early? It's because there will literally be a million people all crowded on one another during that time. Once your in a decent spot you won't be able to move because if you do you will lose it and you might not be able to get back with friends and family until after midnight.

Also while you're down there during the New Year's time they have many great places to try and see. I would suggest you try to see the Wall Street and Soho areas in Manhattan. Seeing those areas to me were absolutely great. I would also suggest that you get a nice slice of NYC pizza and a great hot dog. I have had plenty of great hot dogs and pizza in my life but there's nothing like a Manhattan hot dog and pizza.

The last great attraction of NYC New Year's is the big media circus that's going on in that area. There are a ton of things going on at that time; cameras, anchormen and television stars are all over the place. It is definitely a live and vibrant place. I enjoyed NYC during New Year's and I have plans to go back so if you're at all interested in doing the same I say do it because it will be a time like no other.

Britain's Top 10 Picnic Spots

In the hope of a sunny August (fingers crossed, touch wood etc), here's a list of Britain's top picnic spots, as recommended by the Waitrose website.

1. Mottisfont Abbey Garden (Near Romsey, Hampshire)
Though Mottisfont's pride - the National Collection of Old-Fashioned Roses - tends to be at its best in July, this year's weird weather may have delayed their bloom somewhat. Even if you miss the roses' prime, you will enjoy the gorgeous gardens and the beautiful house. Perfect for an evening's Jane Austen re-enactment...

2. Bodiam Castle (Near Robertsbridge, East Sussex)
If you prefer Monty Python to Jane Austen - this castle is for you! It featured in the Python film The Holy Grail and boasts a splendidly well-preserved medieval castle complete with moat, battlements and all the trimmings. "Niiii!".

3. Fountains Abbey (Fountains Ripon, N. Yorkshire)
A treat for the whole family! Borrow monks' robes on site and join the "It's a monk's life" tour of this World Heritage Site.

4. Stourhead (Near Mere, Wiltshire)
Wander through the renowned landscape garden and enjoy your picnic by the lake with a backdrop of temples and rare trees. If you're feeling energetic after lunch, climb King Alfred's Tower and enjoy the magnificent view.

5. Avebury (Near Marlborough, Wiltshire)
This is one of Europe's most impressive prehistoric stone circles - it even predates Stonehenge! Speculate about what the site was originally used for... and walk where centuries of lovers have walked before you. If you're feeling didactic, there's an interactive museum to enjoy.

6. Lyme Park (Near Diesly, Stockport, Chesire)
What girl can forget the scene in Pride and Prejudice (the 'real' BBC version) where Colin Firth emerges from the water? Well, Lyme Park is where it was filmed! With 1,400 acres of parkland to choose from, you're bound to find your perfect picnic spot to play at being Mr Darcy and Lizzie Bennett.

7. Wimpole Home Farm (Arrington, Royston, Cambridgeshire)
This is one for the animal lovers! The working farm specialises in rare breeds of sheep, goats, cows and horses from the 1700s. The perfect spot for a traditional farmhouse picnic, followed by meetings with Shire horses and lambs. This spot is a favourite with families as there's plenty to keep kids entertained.

8. Stowe Landscape Gardens (Buckingham, Buckinghamshire)
This is a picnickers dream - with over forty monuments, temples and secret nooks to explore you are guaranteed to find a secluded spot that suits your taste. The banks of the Octagon Lake near Palladian Bridge are a particular favourite.

9. Dinefwr Park & Castle (Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire)
A medieval castle, a park with deer, and bog woods - now that's what I call picnic perfect! Newton House, dating back to 1660, is open Thursday-Monday throughout the summer.

10. Morden Hall (Morden, Surrey)
This proves that you don't have to go far from London to feel as though you have! Explore meadow, wetlands, waterways and an exquisite Rose Garden. The latter is in bloom all summer and holds over 2000 plants.

You Can Have it All on the Costa Del Sol

This is a run down of some of the fantastic activities and reasons to overcome your preconceptions and try the Costa del Sol for your next holiday.

Skiing and sunbathing in one place

We all associate the Costa del Sol with fantastic beaches and the sparkling Mediterranean Sea and it's certainly a great place to soak up the sun, enjoy the fantastic atmosphere and nightlife. However, what many people don't know is Andalucía also offers Europe's Southern-most ski resort, with great skiing from December to the beginning of May.

This winter wonderland is just a stone's throw from the Costa del Sol and on a good day you can even see the sea from the slopes. In fact it's so close that you can enjoy hot sunshine on the coast in the morning and then be on the slopes within two hours to enjoy an afternoon of skiing!

The Sierra Nevada (Snowy Mountain Range) near Granada offers sunshine, good snow and a good mix of runs for beginners and intermediates, plus a handful of more challenging runs. Although it is not a huge resort, there are wide, well-pisted slopes, quick and efficient lifts and good restaurants and bars to rest those weary feet. Plus you can combine skiing with a day on the beach to recover before you head home.

Terrific towns and picturesque pueblos

This area of Spain has been slammed for its concrete tower blocks and non-existent town planning. However, don't be fooled by this negative press coverage, for every Torremolinos there are several stunning white villages nestled into the hillsides, not to mention vibrant, Spanish towns and cities with great architecture.

Marbella is a fantastic town with lots of charm, a predominantly Spanish population, a beautiful beachside promenade and tons of fantastic bars and restaurants. It is often confused with the nearby Puerto Banus and thought to be an expensive, flashy place, but in fact this is a very real, working Spanish town and merits a visit.

Marbella's hidden gem is its historic and picturesque Old Town, or 'casco antiguo'. This has changed little over the centuries and still features ancient architecture, a maze of narrow cobbled streets with charming white washed houses and beautiful plazas. At the centre is Orange Square, a beautiful and typically Andalucian square, full of orange trees and sweetly scented tropical plants. The Old Town is full of unusual shops and galleries, little chapels and churches, not to mention a fantastic selection of bars, cafes and eateries, and is a great place to explore.

The picturesque Pueblo Blancos 'white villages' are a typically Andalucian feature and have been well-preserved, yet little explored by most tourists. If you are able to hire a car then you can spend several days driving around the stunning countryside, exploring these little villages and stepping back into Andalucia's past.

The most beautiful is Casares., built on the mountainside around an ancient Muslim fortress. Despite its proximity to the coast it has been un-spoilt by tourism and you can spend hours wandering its quaint, narrow cobbled streets, taking in the breathtaking scenery and enjoying its sleepy old-fashioned feel.

A Sports Man's Dream

If you want to have an active holiday then the Costa del Sol is a fantastic choice. It features more than 35 18-hole courses and over 10 9-hole courses, as well as hosting high-profile tournament such as the Volvo Masters in October.

If you like tennis, there are 9 fantastic tennis clubs, as well as many outdoor courts attached to hotels and urbanisations. As the European city of Sport 2009 Marbella is putting on many events including The Andalucía Tennis Experience in April featuring Jelena Jancovik and Serena Williams competing for the crown. Puerto Banus is also hosting the Davis Cup semi-final between Spain and Germany in July.

The Costa del Sol is a perfect place for mountain-biking and hiking in the nearby hills and mountains. For the more adventurous a hike up the iconic La Concha is a must, but as it is as high as Ben Nevis it isn't to be underestimated. There are numerous companies offering quad-biking, horse riding and walking tours to help you make the most of the stunning scenery just minutes from the coastal resorts.

There are also a host of water sports to take advantage of the Med such as sea-kayaking, windsurfing, diving and kite surfing. Or if you want to stay dry, you can take to the sea for a spot of fishing, learn to sail, or to try to spot some of the native dolphins.

Andalucia's unique cultural treasures

Andalucía boasts some of the most amazing cities and the most breathtaking sights to be seen anywhere in the world.

There's the narrow, bustling cobbled streets and ancient architecture of the Jewish Quarter in Seville; the harmonious blend of two thousand years of Christian and Muslim religious history in the stunning Mezquita in Cordoba; the Alhambra set against the snow covered peaks of Sierra Nevada in Granada and the golden dome of Cádiz cathedral shimmering high over the white tipped waves of the blue Atlantic ocean.

These cities are just two or three hours away by car from the Costa del Sol and make fantastic day trips to spice up any Costa del Sol holiday itinerary.

Even closer to the coast is the lovely and often overlooked city of Malaga. Malaga is so much more than an airport. Its long history has left a host of beautiful monuments such as the Cathedral, Gibralfaro Castle, the Alcazaba and the Roman Theatre. There are also a selection of beautiful historical gardens, and over 20 different museums to choose from.

However, it's the city's artistic heritage that is its biggest claim to fame. Malaga was Picasso's birthplace, and has the fantastic Picasso Museum to honour and celebrate the city's most famous son. This gallery has over 200 examples of works by Picasso on permanent display, including oil paintings, sculptures, drawings, sketches, etchings and ceramics housed in a stunning 17th century Renaissance building.

Relax and Rejuvenate

A holiday in Spain is a great way to get rid of the stress and strain of working life. Visit some of the beautiful beach clubs, stroll down the promenade and enjoy the laid-back pace of life. In addition, there are some amazing luxury spas and health clubs where you can pamper yourself and ensure you come back rested, relaxed and rejuvenated.

If facials and treatments just aren't enough to achieve the desired result then you can combine a relaxing holiday with a spot of cosmetic surgery, for a truly rejuvenating trip! There are several clinics to choose from in this area and it can be a more affordable and discreet option than the UK. All clinics have fully-qualified, English-speaking surgeons, excellent after care and an opportunity to recover from the surgery before returning home.

Family Fun

Spain is a very family friendly place and kids are welcomed wherever you go. The Costa del Sol has a whole host of fantastic places to go and things to do. A day at Funny Beach is perfect for those who love amusement, speed and adrenaline. Enjoying a Cornwall Holiday - Rain Or Shine

Each year, more than 5 million visitors flock to Cornwall to enjoy the attractions in warm weather. There are however days when rains displace the regular sunshine. The opposite coasts always seem to present the best of either ends. You can very well expect the north coast to be rainy when the south coast is sunny (and vice versa).

When you stay in a holiday cottage instead of a regular hotel or a backpacking hostel, you have the option to cross the peninsula and visit areas that sport just your kind of weather condition. Alternately, you can stay put and make an effort to relish every moment of your Cornish holiday - whatever your age, whatever the weather and wherever you are. Here are some attractions in Cornwall that let you do just that:

Kiddie Fun

Goonhilly Downs is the site of the world's biggest satellite stations. Here you and the kids can get interactive fun by learning about Cold War technology and the latest iPhone features. A guided tour will educate you on how the Goonhilly earth station transmits visual images of events on this planet and beyond, including but not limited to the first moon landings, the pioneering live coverage of the Olympics as well as an all-original concert called Live Aid. The interactive zones are guaranteed to blow your mind. You and the youngsters will need hours to digest everything from this visit.

Royal Cornwall Museum always has something of interest for both the curious and the lovers of history. The museum is known to be the most prestigious and the oldest in the lot, giving you a detailed preview of Cornish history beginning with the Stone Age and onwards. You can also see some fascinating exhibits including those of an Egyptian mummy and some excellent ceramics. If you come to Cornwall on a budget, do not miss visiting this museum. Admission comes at the sweet price of nothing.

The Flambards Experience offers not only fun rides but a variety of indoor exhibitions as well. Once you are inside the place, you will forget about the inclement weather outside. Some highly recommended exhibits that will please both young and old include the Exploratorium, the Aviation Experience, the Victorian Village and Memory Lane.

Tween and Teen Amusement

Geevor Tin Mine gives you some sights and sounds of the largest preserved mining site in Cornwall. The mine also serves as a museum where you can trace the historical highlights of Cornish mining from the 18th century. Explore the tunnels first, and then tour the museum above ground. The museum houses a coffee shop where teens can socialize. Enjoy a cup of the aromatic drink while you view the surrounding coastline of Land's End from the window. The view gets better when the heavy downpour outside subsides to a gentle drizzle.

The National Maritime Museum is a compendium of one dozen modern galleries overlooking Falmouth Harbour. The museum's gigantic windows give you plenty of room to witness breath-taking spectacles of the harbour under water. The exhibits feature at least 27 uniquely crafted boats, with each boat fulfilling a specific purpose as well. Any questions you may have can be answered when you attend the museum's boat building workshop.

The Bodmin Jail and the Bodmin Courtroom satisfies your teenage craving for thrills and spooks with gusto. The jail showcases a tour of haunted dungeons that will surely tickle your imagination. You may want to temper your fear of the supernatural with some logical challenge as you enter Shire Hall and immerse yourself in the famed courtroom experience dating back to 1844. Here, you have the chance to sit as a jury member in Matthew Weeks' trial. Weeks was the primary suspect for the murder of a local girl in Bodmin Moor. Is Weeks indeed the murderer or is he just the unfortunate, innocent scapegoat? You decide!

Entertainment for Grown Ups

The Eden Project is the world's biggest conservatory, taking you well beyond Cornwall without having to book a ticket to the tropics or the Mediterranean. Although the name has an outdoor ring to it, you can actually have fun from the simulated wonders of the natural world inside two gigantic indoor environments. One is a tropical rainforest, complete with jungle foliage that you can touch. Another is a Mediterranean paradise where you can see, feel and learn about pineapples, tobacco, ebony and cork.

Porthcurno Telegraph Museum can answer your musings ranging from secret World War II messages to the evolution of technologies used for communication. The award-winning museum is the actual site of the first underwater telegraph cable which in 1870 got connected to Bombay. Outside Porthcurno Telegraph Museum lie the beach and an open-air theatre called Minack attractions that you too can conveniently check out in the event the rain subsides.

Tate Gallery is a must-see spot for the avid art lover. Known as the artist's mecca, the gallery stands in St. Ives and houses four floors of assorted ceramic artifacts, sculptures and paintings which you can view to your heart's content. Despite the rising popularity of digital art today, the gallery which showcases traditional artwork remains to be one of the leading tourist attractions in Cornwall.

Truro Cathedral stands amidst a shopping hub in Truro City. Built in 1880, the cathedral offers you a taste and the best views of Gothic Revival architecture. You do not have to worry about getting lost in the place. In most cases, all you need to do is to simply show up at 11 a.m. to enjoy the guided tour.

St. Austelle Brewery Visitor Centre is the place to be when your interest is in beer. Here you will discover a number of brewery traditions in place at Cornwall. After teaching you a thing or two on how the Cornish brew beer, the tour closes with a free sampling of the beverage. This way you get to know how the real thing tastes.

Motorhome Holiday Ideas - Five Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England

Hiring a motorhome gives the driver unparalleled freedom of movement, without the logistical hassle of having to arrange hotel accommodation. This means that no part of the natural landscape is off limits. There is perhaps no better way of making the most of this freedom than heading for official Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs), which are designated as areas of high scenic beauty and have official protection from development.

In England, AONBs are recognised as such by Natural England, an independent public body with the task of protecting and improving the country's natural environment. This organisation encourages the public to visit the countryside and get more involved in their surroundings.

If you are a motorhome enthusiast and are planning to hire a motorhome this summer to visit the English countryside, here are five great ideas for destinations. All are official Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

1. The Cotswolds

Often referred to as the 'heart of England', the Cotswold Hills run from south-east to north-west through six counties, including Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Gloucestershire. Famous for its quaint towns and villages, constructed from the local yellow limestone, the Cotswolds is the largest AONB in England and attracts visitors from across the world.

2. The Malvern Hills

The most popular free tourist attraction in the West Midlands are the Malvern Hills, which straddle the counties of Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Hereforshire. The area offers stunning views toward the Welsh Mountains and across the Bristol Channel and is ideal motorhome country, with plenty of campsite facilities and areas to park. As well as the countryside, the historic cathedral cities of Worcester, Hereford and Gloucester are all within easy reach.

3. The Northumberland Coast

Stretching from Berwick-Upon-Tweed to Amble, this AONB is arguably the most stunning coastline in all of the British Isles. The windswept Northumberland coast is an ambler's and beachcomber's heaven, with mile upon mile of dramatic beaches and rocky coves.

4. The North Wessex Downs

Encompassing the uplands of the Berkshire, North Hampshire and Marlborough Downs, this entire area offers tranquil English countryside in its most untouched state of nature. Upland habitat abuts downland and dramatic ancient forests. The area is sprinkled by charming rustic villages and farmhouses and offers the nature-lover an incredible wealth of lovely walks. A birdspotter's paradise.

5. The Tamar Valley

One of England's last unspoilt drowned river systems, the Tamar Valley draws nature lovers from around the world to the confluence of the Tamar, Lynher and Tavy rivers on the Devon-Cornwall borderlands. The area has been farmed for centuries and the ancient remnants of agricultural practice through the ages dot the landscape. Abandoned tin mines are scattered throughout the Valley and are well worth a visit.

Newbury-Berkshire - A Great Place to Live

Newbury - Berkshire - is a very popular town found almost on the crossroads between the West Country and London, and the Midlands and the South Coast. Many of Southern England's main urban centres are within an hours drive. It has a beautiful setting on the edge of the Thames Valley.

Its prime location has resulted in it being a highly sought after location. Today the real estate prices are some of the most expensive that can be found anywhere in the British Isles. Its close proximity to London has made it an ideal residential location for commuters. There has been a large influx of technology based companies and this has also added to the demand for property.

Newbury is quickly evolving from being a quiet rural market town to a thriving and sophisticated urban region. The influx of people have also brought an exciting arts scene that is dominated by theatres, arts festivals, as well as fine dining options and bars and clubs. There is also a famous racecourse that hosts important events from the racing calendar.

There has not been so much development in terms of shopping; many people will still travel to the large malls and shopping centres that are found in the nearby towns of Swindon, Basingstoke, and Reading.

Historically, the town has had periods of rapid growth previously. Since being founded by Norman Knights 1000 years ago, the town first developed during the middle ages when it was a thriving textile centre. Its convenient location between the Roman centres of London and Bath also resulted in it being a resting point on the journey.

Within the UK, the town is famous as being a centre of political protests. As many as 40, 000 women spent time camped out at the nearby Greenham Common airbase in the 1960s when America stored nuclear missiles at the location.

Enjoying The Best of Birmingham

Situated in the heart of the Midlands, 'Brum' or Birmingham - the UK's second largest city - is one of the most vibrant and exciting places to visit within the British Isles.

Home to the world famous City of Birmingham Orchestra and Birmingham Royal Ballet, the city of Birmingham is a thriving cultural hotspot that attracts more than 22 million people per year.

Those fond of shopping will be pleased to know Birmingham is the home of the several famous shopping centres including the famous Bullring Shopping Centre, the Pavillions, the Mailbox and the Pallasades.

Of all these shopping venues, the Bullring is considered to be the most famous. A trading area as far back as the middle ages, the Bullring has always been the centre for shopping and commerce within the city of Birmingham.

While always a retail hotspot, the area around the Bullring fell into disrepair after the Second World War and it wasn't until after redevelopment plans were drawn up in the later 60s and early 70s that the Bullring became famous for shopping once again. Today it is one the largest shopping malls within the Midlands and is home to more than 160 high street, fashionable shops.

One other attraction that pulls in thousands of tourists every year is the Cadbury factory on Linden Road. Chocoholics visiting the factory can enjoy a guided tour around one of Britain's most famous chocolate sites, learn a little about the history of chocolate and a favourite amount tourists - purchase cheap misshapes and promotional chocolate samples.

Of course there are those who are not lured to Birmingham for chocolate tours or shopping sprees, but instead visit Birmingham for its popular cultural activities. Of all the cultural activities to enjoy in Birmingham, the City of Birmingham Orchestra is one of the more favourite.

Founded by Neville Chamberlain, the orchestra gave its first performance as the city of Birmingham Orchestra in the autumn of 1920. The first performance was conducted by Edward Elgar and included Overture: Saul within its original program, a piece written by Granville Bantock, a keen supporter of the organisation.

In 1948, the orchestra changed its name to the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra after becoming a full-time organisation. Since moving to become a full-time organisation, the CBO has become one of Britian's most famous orchestras, regularly featuring on the BBC and playing concerts throughout Birmingham and across the British Isles.

Those looking to catch a performance with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra will find all the information they need at its offices on Berkley Street.

Whether it's shopping at the Bullring, learning about the history of chocolate or relaxing to the sounds of the orchestra, Birmingham has something to offer every visitor, the numerous Birmingham budget hotels and restaurants ensuring you are adequately catered for on your trip.

Finding Real and Relevant Tour Reviews

One of the main problems associated with reading and/or buying a travel review book written by an individual travel writer is the fact that their opinions may not be an accurate representation of certain New Zealand tourist activities, accommodations and attractions. Particularly so if the tourism operators being reviewed knew of the writers intentions - and thus turned on all the trimmings for free with the hope of getting an amazing review.

How do you know the tour or travel review you are reading is from someone who had nothing to gain, but to share their own experiences to help you have a better holiday? The idea of a review is that it should be impartial but often this is a little watered down when reading professional travel writer's pieces. Not because they are breaking any laws or trying to lie, but because it is very hard to be completely honest about someone contributing to your livelihood.

If you want impartial tour reviews of New Zealand then look for online travel opinion based websites that adhere to the following:

- Is it community driven?
If it's independent, the travellers who use it will drive the comments. You'll not only want to read the comments, but it's likely you'll want to give back your opinion by the end of your trip, helping others planning a New Zealand holiday.

- Does it talk about a wide variety of options?
We don't all have bottomless wallets or are trying to explore on the smell of the oily rag. An effective site gives you a range of options, reviewing free, budget, average and high end attractions.

- Is it up to date?
Find a site that has regular real time updates from people who have just experienced the places you are going to. It makes the responses more authentic and if there have been any changes in the structure or provision of the event it is going to be picked up straight away.

Get the best tour reviews of New Zealand by locating real and relevant information that is from a range of travelers and up to date. Don't risk relying on a single and perhaps biased travel writer's opinion. Take it from people who just want to pass on their awesome (or not so spectacular) experiences - helping you make better choices when it comes to planning your New Zealand holiday.

Moroccan Delights

For a cultural, crazy, cosy week away, look no further than the marvellous Morocco. Where snake charmers wander looking for tips, religion rules the roost and extreme temperatures take there toll. This marvellous place offers something unique which you won't find in most other tourist resorts. Visit Agadir where you'll find some stunning, five star properties, a beautiful promenade with beaches which stretch as far as the eye can see and an up and coming harbour with modern, trendy shops being erected to create a contemporary, cool harbour.

The hotels here offer All Inclusive packages which will entice you to remain in the grounds all day long, but you must go for a wander as there's so much of Morocco not to miss out on.

Overlooked by the Atlas Mountains like a barrier against all to protect this spectacular city, they glow in the night's sky with astounding religious, Arabic writing etched into its cliff face. Standing aloof overlooking the coastline is the fabulous, infamous Kasbah. The Kasbah is home to many street performers, snake charmers and farmers with their sheep offering tourists to have there picture taken...for a price! The Kasbah is situated on top of the mountain and tour operators offer trips up there, alternatively, agree a price with a taxi driver and he will take you up and show you around, again, for a price!

Local cuisine is an absolute delight, with couscous being the specialty on any menu followed by kefta (kebabs) and tagines (spicy stew). There are many restaurants outside of the hotel which offer the same Moroccan food and the odd English bar offering English food, which still tastes like Moroccan cuisine.

When it comes to buying gifts for friends and family, don't miss out on the all day market at The Grand Souk. With over 20 entrances into this gigantic market, it can be very easy to get lost. Hire a guide outside and he will ensure you get around the best way possible and will take you to the best stalls to suit your needs. Selling everything from fresh fruit and live produce, fake Gucci watches to leather goods. You can grab an absolute bargain here, but not without a good old haggle. The stall owners will act like they don't bargain, but trust me, keep at it and you'll walk away with what you want at the price you want.

Nightlife here is fairly tame, with very few bars and clubs outside of large hotels. The majority of five star hotels here usually offer several bars, a piano bar and a mediocre nightclub offering music from the nineties. Most hotels provide a trip to the Sofitel Agadir Royalbay Resort, or if you're lucky enough to be staying their, visit the popular nightclub, offering the best entertainment and music along with occasional live entertainment and plush dining facilities.

Agadir is a must-see for all who enjoy seeing a different culture, local ways and fantastic beaches. You'll probably come home with more in your case than you went with, along with a fantastic tan and a new found love for Morocco. Cheap package holidays to Morocco are fairly easy to find, look through all major tour operators to compare prices, wait until the last minute then bag your bargain before anyone else does.
