Looking at the Location of Marlborough

In Wiltshire county you will find the town of Marlborough. The location is the spot of the widest high street in all of England. It's thought that the first people were here in this location during pre-historic times. In fact you can see a sign of that by the tumulus that is found at Marlborough College.

It is thought that the mound is the spot where Merlin was buried. Thus the name of the location coming from Merlin's Barrow. Also located here you will find the burial bucket that dates back to the Iron Age. It's a bronze sheet that has decorations of animals and human heads on it.

Even Roman coins and remains have been found located near Marlborough. Other past history of this location includes William the Conqueror would take over the location back in 1067. There he would have a castle built on what was the location of the pre-historic mound.

He would also make the location one of where the mint would be, and coins made there would be ones that would have William I and II on them. It would be William I who would make the surrounding area his Royal hunting ground, Savernake Forest.

While also the spot where Henry I would spend his Easter during 1110. Back in the fourteenth century the castle would start to become deteriorated. There would be a charter granted in the year of 1204 for an eight day fair to be held. Plus markets that would be held each week on Saturdays and Wednesdays.

This location is full of past history as you can tell, and that isn't even part of what all happened in Marlborough through the years. Traveling to this location would be like stepping into the history books.

Many fabulous things to see and do is what you will find in this town!
